Congratulations to Carlisle’s  Archie Davies  who claimed his first Senior title by winning the Welsh Amateur Championship here at Tenby Golf Course.

Davies beat Aberdovey’s  Connor Jones 8 + 7 in the final.  Archie and Connor made it through from a field of 103 competitors who started on Monday to the final pairing, this meant playing a total of 8 rounds in five days.  It probably helped that they were aged 18 and 19 respectively in terms of fitness and stamina!

The course was also obviously to the liking of  Lewys Sanges of Celtic Manor G.C. who shot record score of 64 during the first day of the strokeplay qualifier on Monday.

Although based in Carlisle, Archie’s Great Grandfather played rugby for Wales against New Zealand.

Archie commented “I really like Tenby as a course, it was in great condition, the greens were awesome”, Archie added, “Tenby G.C. was magnificent in every respect and with its location must be a place everyone should want to play”.
